Ohio: Substitute HB 509
A dangerous bill is in the Ohio state legislature and we need your help.
The Ohio Senate Workforce & Higher Education committee adopted the substitute bill at their hearing on Wednesday, November 30, so the language that would allow for people without degrees in social work to be a LSW is now in the bill. In Ohio anyone with an LSW is eligible to become a custody evaluator. This means unqualified people will be able to apply to be CEs. The committee will hold a hearing next week (currently not scheduled) where they will consider amendments to the bill. Please contact the members of the committee to urge them to support an amendment introduced by Senator Nickie Antonio to remove the related degree section of the bill. There are no “related fields'' that are social work; social work is social work.'
Please write and call the members of the committee.
Dear Senator _ :
I am writing and calling to urge Senator {NAME} to support an amendment to Substitute HB 509 next week that would remove the section that would allow people without degrees in social work to become licensed as a social worker. This is a public protection issue and could result in serious harm to the vulnerable community members.
Sincerely,
